March 2024 Traffic Results: 2,875,104 passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (+11.8%) and 2,206,619 passengers at Vienna Airport (+7.6%) – Strong passenger growth compared to the prior-year level
 
The number of passengers handled by Flughafen Wien AG continued to increase in the month of March 2024. Total passenger volume in the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose 11.8% to 2,875,104 travellers. The number of passengers at Vienna Airport was up 7.6% to 2,206,619 travellers compared to the prior-year month (despite the impacts of the Austrian Airlines strike at the end of March 2024).
 
The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport in March 2024 rose to 1,770,125, comprising a rise of 12.7% compared to the prior-year month. In contrast, transfer passenger traffic fell 9.0% to 430,492 travellers. The number of flight movements in March 2024 increased 2.8% year-on-year to 16,568 take-off and landings. Cargo volume equalled 26,026 tonnes, up 12.0% from March 2023.
 
Details on passenger traffic
Passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe rose to 761,427 passengers in March 2024, comprising an increase of 10.8% compared to the prior-year month. The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in March 2024 amounted to 168,212 travellers (+1.7%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 27,164 passengers flying to North America (+10.0%), and 29,589 (+12.9%) to Africa. Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East totalled 73,833 travellers (-6.3%), whereas the passenger volume to the Far East climbed to 39,687 travellers, a rise of 4.8%.
 
Passenger volume at Malta Airport rose 30.1% to 633,826 travellers in March 2024. Kosice Airport was able to keep passenger numbers largely stable in March 2024 and recorded a slight decline of 1.2% to 34,659 travellers.
