Vienna Airport Offers New Service for Maximum Health Protection and the Best Possible Travel Safety – A Substantial Improvement for Repatriates and Passengers

Coronavirus PCR tests on site at Vienna Airport - no quarantine necessary if results are negative

Air travel in Vienna are now safer and easier within the context of valid government regulations. In accordance with current rules, passengers arriving at Vienna Airport at the present time must either present a medical certificate not older than four days which confirms negative COVID-19 test findings or are required to begin a 14-day quarantine. Starting tomorrow, Monday, 4 May 2020, people can receive a medical report quickly and easily by means of a so-called PCR test carried out directly on site at Vienna Airport. The results are available within a period of two to three hours. If the test turns out to be negative, no 14-day quarantine in Austria is necessary. This testing service is not only for passengers at Vienna Airport but for anyone interested.

In this way, flights are now safer and easier - regardless of whether they involve business trips or urgent trips with on-demand aircraft within the context of general aviation, in particular if they last no more than four days, as well as arrivals and departures on scheduled flights from and to currently available destinations and via the General Aviation Center.

In cooperation with the company Confidence DNA Analysen GmbH, Vienna Airport now offers passengers the possibility to undergo molecular-biological COVID-19 testing (PCR test) directly on site at the airport. The results will be available within two to three hours. If the test turns out to be negative, the passenger does not have to isolate themselves in self-quarantine in Austria for 14 days. In this way, quarantine periods which have already been commenced can also be prematurely terminated. Positive test results are immediately reported to public authorities, who will initiate appropriate steps to treat the affected person.

Quick and uncomplicated testing
The PCR tests are carried out quickly and easily. Customers arrange for an appointment directly with Confidence DNA Analysen GmbH by calling the telephone number +43-1-7007-24906 (German and English) or via email at coronatest@viennaairport.com. The laboratory is located in Office Park 3 (ground floor) at Vienna Airport and is accessible via a roadside entrance. A specimen is collected using a throat swab. Results are subsequently available in two to three hours. A quarantine is not necessary in the case of negative COVID-19 test results. Confidence DNA Analysten GmbH will charge the passenger a fee of € 190 for providing this private service. Further information can be found on the Vienna Airport website ( www.viennaairport.com).

Adherence to all legal regulations: flights are safer and easier
Air travel for business and private travellers is now safer and easier in accordance with currently valid travel and health regulations. In addition to the COVID-19 test results, passengers departing from Vienna will be given a document for the purpose of entering their designated destination, enabling them to prove that they have not been infected with the coronavirus. This depends on entry requirements and is subject to the approval of the national authorities at the respective travel destination. For trips lasting no more than four days, the quarantine obligation does not apply for passengers returning to Austria if they are subject to COVID-19 testing shortly before departing from Vienna Airport and can present a health certificate showing the negative COVID-19 test results. Travellers from abroad can reserve an appointment at Vienna Airport in advance by phone, and thus gain clarity promptly after arriving in Vienna as to whether or not they have to quarantine themselves.

At present scheduled flights are being operated from Vienna to Doha, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Lisbon, Minsk and Sofia. The General Aviation Center is always in operation and is available for flights on demand and business trips.

In any case, it is recommended that travellers inform themselves about the currently valid entry and health regulations in the respective countries before starting their journey. Vienna Airport informs passengers about the precise testing offering via the airlines, in the terminal and on the Vienna Airport website.

Health and safety when travelling are top priorities at Vienna Airport – Austrian entry and health regulations continue to apply
The currently valid entry and health regulations of public authorities, as well as the additional protective measures carried out by Vienna Airport, naturally continue to apply regardless of the results of the PCR tests. Body temperature of all arriving passengers are measured by health authorities at the airport. All travellers who do not present a medical certificate with negative COVID-19 findings (not older than 4 days) are required to isolate themselves in self-quarantine for 14 days. Third-country nationals on flights to Austria from outside the Schengen region are generally prohibited from entering Austria unless they have a valid residence permit. Furthermore, landing bans on flights from specified risk areas are still in effect.

Health and safety when travelling are of paramount importance for Vienna Airport. Passengers and employees are required to wear protective face masks throughout the entire terminal area. Check-in, boarding and information desks are equipped with plexiglass social distancing shields. Distance markings are placed on the boarding areas and hand disinfection stands have been installed in the terminal. Passengers are informed about these measures on site via announcements and information monitors in the terminal. In case of bus boarding, the number of passengers per bus will be limited in order to ensure that a sufficient safety distance is maintained. Airlines themselves have also defined their own protective measures for flight operations, such as mandatory face masks on board.
