Airport ID Card

Due to EU regulations concerning aviation security, Flughafen Wien AG (=VIE) is required to secure the airport premises. Access to the landside and airside areas is therefore permitted for authorised persons only.

If you want to renew an existing Airport ID Card, you will find further information here:

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Due to technical maintenance at the BMK data center, all BMK database applications, including ZÜP, will be unavailable on 11/14/2022 and 11/17/2022, from 6:00 p.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m.

We ask for your understanding.

Attention! Since 3.12.2021 the official background check for the Airport ID Card has changed.

The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) is introducing a new digital process for background checks on persons who want to apply for or extend an Airport ID Card.

As of 03.12.2021, the data for persons to be checked (Airport ID Card holders) must be entered and the background checks must be processed by the respective company via the available application “ZÜP – Zuverlässigkeitsüberprüfung/Aviation Security“ in the business service portal (USP, www.usp.gv.at).

The enhanced background check must also be repeated annually (and no longer every 5 years). However, all valid background checks will remain valid until 30.06.2024 at the latest!

For the above-mentioned reason, the Airport ID Card Office is changing the application for a permanent Airport ID Card on 03.12.2021.

HOW TO OBTAIN A NEW AIRPORT ID CARD

Your company is located at Vienna Airport or has been commissioned by a company located at Vienna Airport to carry out activities.

The application for a permanent Airport ID Card is submitted digitally.

  • The official part, registration and entry of employees, takes place in the ZÜP application of the BMK, which can be reached via the USP.

  • Order creation and training bookings take place in Flughafen Wien AG’s ID card authorization and administration system (ABV).

We have complied the following explanations and instructions for you:

WHAT IS THE ENTERPRISE SERVICE PORTAL (USP)?

The Enterprise Service Portal (USP) is an initiative of the Austrian Federal Government. The aim is to establish a central one-stop shop where companies can retrieve the information relevant to them and process their legal obligations quickly and efficiently.

The ZÜP application can be accessed via the USP (see below).

HOW DO I REGISTER WITH THE USP?

This point is important for all those who have never registered in the USP before.

WHAT IS THE ZÜP APPLICATION

The application Zuverlässigkeitsüberprüfung / Aviation Security (ZÜP application) is an application of the BMK and is used to record the data of the external employee(s). The ZÜP application can be accessed via the Enterprise Service Portal (USP) (see above). This requires logging in to the USP with two-factor authentication such as mobile phone signature or citizen card.

All information on the ZÜP application can be found at the following link:

https://www.bmk.gv.at/themen/verkehr/luftfahrt/sicherheit/pruefung/zuep.html

The BMK has set up a hotline for any telephone queries regarding the ZÜP application.

You can reach the ZÜP helpdesk on weekdays from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. by telephone at:

Process of applying for an airport id card

The people involved in the process:

FWAG employee: CLIENT

External company: CONTRACTOR

Employee external company: ID CARD RECIPIENT

This step takes place BEFORE the digital application process starts:

A business relationship is established between FWAG and external company. An external employee requires an Airport ID Card because they have to work in the restricted area.

Client (FWAG employee) in the ABV:

The client creates a work order in the ABV.

Steps 3 and 4 take place in the Federal Ministry (BMK) business service portal without involvement of the airport.

The data entry checklist for the enhanced background check and all other info can be found via the following link:
www.bmk.gv.at/themen/verkehr/luftfahrt/sicherheit/pruefung/zuep.html

Contractor in ZÜP:

The contractor registers the company in ZÜP and receives an ID number.

If the company is already registered, this step is not necessary.

How to register in ZÜP:

Contractor in ZÜP:

The contractor enters all employee data for the enhanced background check in the “ZÜP – Background Check/Aviation Security” via the USP. They then release the employee for the work at Vienna Airport.

Important: Once the data has been entered, a 4-week waiting period is to be expected for the background check result.

How does the data entry for the "ZÜP - Background Check / Aviation Security" work via the USP?

Contractor in the ABV:

The contractor accesses the ABV and enters the ID number that they received from the ZÜP during registration. The client (FWAG employee) must verify this in the ABV.

Contractor in the ABV:

In the ABV portal, the contractor assigns the work order created by the FWAG employee to the employee previously registered in the USP.

Only then will the background check be initiated and costs will be incurred for the Airport ID Card application.

Duration of the enhanced background check by the BMK: 4 weeks

Contractor in the ABV:

The contractor receives a request to reserve a place on the EU-compliant security training course via the ABV.

Once the BMK has completed the enhanced background check, the contractor will receive a confirmation that their previously reserved place is firmly booked.

The external employee arrives at the Airport ID Card Office for security training and proof of competence.

The official photo ID that was specified in the USP portal and the QR code from the ABV must be brought along.

The external employee will receive their Airport ID Card after completing the training and proof of competence.

  • The courses take place Monday - Thursday (on workdays) punctually at 08:30 a.m. or at 01:00 p.m. and they have to be booked online via the ABV system.

  • All participants are requested to arrive punctually at the Airport ID Card Office because waiting times are to be expected for the registration. The official photo ID that was specified in the USP portal and the QR code from the ABV must be brought along.
